Born
the youngest of 14 children Celine grew up in a close-knit
musical family. Her parents thought it a good idea to
form a singing group and she toured Canada while she was
very young. The family soon opened a piano bar, where
the then five-year-old Celine would perform for customers.
When she was five Celine sent a demo tape to producer
Rene Angelil, and he was so impressed that he would mortgage
his house to help her make her first album. Little did
anyone known but he would eventually end up marrying this
manager, who was many years her senior. In fact Celine’s
three months younger than her stepson, Patrick Angélil.
Celine demo tape would go on to give her exposure across
Canada, most of her music recorded in French. Her music
eventually made its way across the Atlantic and in 1983
she became the first Canadian ever to have a gold record
in France. In fact Celine became famous all over the world,
broadcasting live to millions of people… but very
few in the U.S. Celine recorded her first English language
album, “Unison”, in 1990. Celine’s real
U.S. smash came in 1992 when she recorded the theme to
Disney’s hit animated feature “Beauty and
the Beast”; she won both a Grammy and an Academy
Award.

Though
the 1990s Celine’s popularity continued to grow
and grow. She is responsible for many soundtracks, and
has even appeared on TV shows and in films. Celine sings
at many public events, such as massive relief concerts
and the 1996 Olympic games. Today Celine spends her time
moving about the world giving concerts. She spends a lot
of time in Las Vegas at Ceaesars palace in a giant theatre
built just for her.
