Christina
got her start in 1988 when she entered a regional talent
audition for the “Star Search” syndicated
show, then hosted by Ed McMahon. For the next couple of
years she was a regular performer of "The Star-Spangled
Banner" before football games. In 1990 Christina
got a part on “The Mickey Mouse Club”, and
made her first recording when she was 14. After finishing
high school she continued with her search for fame, and
in 1998 she signed a contract with RCA Records. Her first
major single “Genie in a Bottle” and it launched
Christina’s music career into high gear. Christina’s
first album, which bore her name, was also an immediate
hit and eventually sold over eight million copies in the
United States alone.

Before
her twenty-first birthday, Christina had several platinum
records, three Grammy Awards, and record sales well over
twenty million copies; she had beat out her former Mickey
Mouse Club cast mate and co-pop culture icon Britney Spears
for the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1999. While
it is true that today Christina enjoys a lot of fame,
she seems to be the sort of young woman who understands
that fame, like glory, is fleeting. Will Christina continue
to rise, hopefully switching from genre to genre before
her time as teen idol status runs out? Lets hope she has
an answer.
