Getting
her start in modeling, Andie like many models had her
sights set on acting. Dropping out of Winthrop College
as a sophomore in 1978, she was accepted and then given
a contract with the Elite Model agency. Many people are
familiar with Andie as one of the eye-popping models working
with L'Oreal, promoting their line of haircare products;
she continues to work for this company despite having
an acting career. This was only the beginning for Andie,
and she would go one to bigger and better things.
In 1984 Andie did a series of commercials for Calvin Klein,
which caught the eye of a talent scout looking for someone
to fill a role in the movie “Greystoke: The Legend
of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes”.

Despite
the fact that she landed a role in “St. Elmo's Fire”
in 1985, it took until 1989 for Andie’s career to
get up to full steam. In 1989 Andie landed a role in the
steamy independent flick “Sex, Lies, and Videotape”;
this got her name out there, and movies like “Green
Card”, “The Object of Beauty”, and “Short
Cuts” came soon afterward.
As of the year 2004 the critics consider her biggest successes
to be the movies that were box office hits, like “Groundhog
Day” and “Four Weddings and a Funeral”.
Many underestimate her performance in the movie “Hudson
Hawk”, made in 1991, which flopped at the box office
but since has become a cult-hit.
