Annette
cut her teeth in junior high school; she played the lead
in a production of “The Sound of Music”. From
there attended San Diego Mesa College after finishing
high school in only three years. After college Annette
went on to San Francisco State University where she completed
her degree in drama. Feeling she needed even more education,
Annette studied at San Francisco's American Conservatory
of Theater, topping it off with a position in a local
theater company.
In 1985 Annette relocated to New York and made her debut
in “Costal Disturbances”. Her first film work
was a made for TV movie, no doubt rewarded to Annette
because of her immense talent, occurred in 1986 and was
entitled “Manhunt for Claude Dallas”. Her
first major feature film role was in The Great Outdoors
in 1988.

She
then made a real name for her self by getting an Academy
Award nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role
for “The Grifters” in 1990. Past 1990 Annette’s
most successful role has been in the moving film “American
Beauty”, which was made in 1999.
An interesting fact: At the Telluride Film Festival in
September 2004, the film critic Roger asked Annette if
she was true that she was the lady seen in the Columbia
Pictures logo. Annette admitted "Oh sure, The artists
told me it was me. But just the face. Not the body".
The artist in question had apparently told her that he
chose her face because he felt that she had the look of
“stern nobility that was perfect to represent artistic
integrity”.
