Ann
has always bee a hard worker, and got her start in taking
tap-dancing lessons. She got jobs dancing in various Hollywood
clubs while being home-schooled, by her mother, who was
hearing impaired. She got noticed and in 1937 RKO asked
her to sign on as a contract dancer for their long list
of future films. While she had to fake her age to get
in she signed on and began a gruelling work schedule.
Playing dancers and second-roles in such films as “Too
Many Girls” Ann was starting make a genuine name
for herself. This was soon followed by a string of stage
productions that were popular, and Ann began to see herself
as a star.
Eventually, RKO released her from her contract, but Columbia
snapped her up to appear in a string of WW II morale boosters.

After
a few years and a bad marriage she was bought up by MGM,
showcasing Ann in such films as “Easter Parade”.
By the time the 1950s had ended Ann had an impressive
list of titles to her name.
As the 1960s loomed Ann lost her third husband and she
began to throw herself into work, appearing on TV, in
nightclubs, and on the stage. She was a smash as the last
actress classic to headline Broadway; she played for nine
years, on Broadway and on tour. From the 1970s on it seems
that showbiz may have got the best of Ann, but she keeps
coming back to sing and dance and show everyone that she
is just as talented as the day she was born.
