Born
in California, was exposed to a little of showbiz as a
child; Candice started her career as part of her father’s
act alongside his puppets Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer
Snerd. When she became a teenager she started modeling,
then moved to acting with the 1966 film “The Group”.
Candice made movies of one type or another thought the
1970s, and in 1979 she won an Academy Award for her part
in the production of “Starting Over”. She
won the part that many still know her for in the politically
charged sitcom “Murphy Brown”, and launched
the role for which she would become most famous.

The
show and its title character became nationally infamous
in 1992, when Vice President Dan Quayle attacked the single
mother TV character for being a poor role model.
After the show ended she was so good as an anchorwoman
that she actually got a job hosting the news. Candice
has published her memoir, called “Knock Wood”,
in 1984. She continues to work as a photojournalist and
to do shows on The Woman’s Network.
