Her
mother, Lauralei Combs, and she, in 1980 moved to New
York to pursue a career as an actress. Her mother worked
as an actress, and Holly wanted to work as her mother
did. She enrolled in the Professional Children's School,
and by age 10 she was working on television commercials
and in magazine ads.
Her first
big role came in 1988 as Debs Boon in "Sweet Harts
Dance," a movie that costarred Susan Sarandon and
Don Johnson. Her biggest break, perhaps, came at age
18 on the award winning show Picket Fences (with Lauren
Holly and Kathy Baker). Her role as Kimberly Brock show
her a Young Artist Award for Best Young Actress in a
New Television Series in 1993.

Throughout
her time on the show she took roles in many television
movies. But the next big step would be as Piper on the
1998 WB New Drama Charmed, costarring Alyssa Milano (originally
scheduled to be Lori Rom) and Shannon Doherty (of Beverly
Hills: 90210 fame).
