Ingrid
Bergman was one of a long line of fantastically beautiful
and talented Swedish stars that graced America’s
silver screens during the golden age of Hollywood.
Born in Stockholm, she got her first taste of film when
she played a girl standing in a line in 1932. Year she
enrolled in the Swedish Royal Theatre but decided that
stage acting was not for her.
It was the famous moviemaker David O. Selzick that got
her a major part in a movie and signed her to a contract.
Once signed, Ingrid came to California and PRESTO…
a Hollywood legend was born. The public fell in love with
her. Her beauty was unlike anything North America was
accustomed to, she played roles with a dignity not seen
before in motion pictures, and her acting and talent was
remarkable.

Ingrid
would be immortalized forever when she landed the role
of the lead female character in “Casablanca”
alongside Humphrey Bogart. Soon she would win Academy
Awards and Oscars to add to long list of accomplishments.
And all would have been grand except… pregnancy,
scandal, and embarrassment. She went to Italy and married
the director of one of the Italian films. The public was
indignant and the Hollywood set appalled. She wouldn’t
return to Hollywood until 1952.
Ingrid’s final movie was in 1978. She retired from
movies to television, and in true Bergman fashion won
an Emmy. Ingrid had died on her birthday, from cancer,
on August 29, 1982 in London, England. She was 67.
