APOLLO MOON MISSIONS - The Apollo mission began when president John F. Kennedy promised America would land a man on the moon before the the 1960's ended. In total there were 17 Apollo missions and 12 astronauts walked on the moon. The most famous mission was Apollo 11 because it was the first to reach the moon. Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon. No other space voyage has ever been as successful in uniting the world as this one did. July 20, 1969 was the day Apollo 11 landed on the moon. Harrison Schmitt and fellow astronaut Eugene Cernan were the last to walk on this magnificent desolation in 1972.
